Quilts

When I was about 10 years old I begged my mom to teach me how to sew. For months she would tell me I was too young until one day she got tired of me pestering her about it that she finally did. I love to sew and bought my first sewing machine within the first year I was married. I think it cost me about $100. Well that same machine has been with me for over 30 years and no longer operates properly. So as I was listening to my friend Wendi talk, and I would go to her house and see all these wonderful things she would sew, that I decided to buy a brand new sewing machine. Wendi sews beautifully and is very creative in the things she makes....not like her friend who has to have a pattern for everything she does. Now, I haven't sewn for a very long time and still have not sewn anything on my new Bernina so Wendi had me come to her house and pick fabric out of her scraps, and vast assortment of fabrics she has collected so that I could start my own quilt. How generous is that!! So I have started to cut fabric to make my very first quilt. I can't tell you enough how excited I am! Did I say that I was excited? So I will post pictures of my project, but in the mean time, here are a few pictures of some quilts I came across while browsing the Internet.

I think these two quilts are very fun and bright. It looks like a ton of work but maybe I'll get good enough that I can create something like these.

I love the baby quilts. The one below is really cute and kind of funny! Since I don't have any grand babies yet, maybe I should just concentrate on non-gender specific baby quilts!

The one below reminds me of Noah's ark, although there isn't an ark in the picture. It is really cute and I would LOVE to make this for a grand baby or shower gift. We'll see!

This one is cute too! It doesn't look to hard and although I think this is meant to hang on a wall, I would make it so it fit a bed, or crib, or maybe my California king size bed! Actually, I do want to make one for my bed just one that is a little more grown up and sophisticated...Ha! Who am I kidding!!

Once again, did I tell you I was excited. I am doing the pattern a square within a square and poor Wendi had to explain it to me a million times. Hopefully after this quilt, we can talk about the weather or our husbands instead of her explaining it too me time after time!
