Texas or Bust

TEXAS

For the 4th of July, Tommy's brother invited us to meet him and his wife and his son's house in Kyle Texas. Kyle is north of San Antonio and since it was something different to do we decided to go. We packed the day that the power went out for 9 hours and if I had been on top of things, we would have left, but we wanted to make sure our dog was okay and that she had air conditioning. Yeah I know, she like my kid, but that's just the way it is.

We stopped just outside of New Mexico and saw this at the rest stop. Tommy couldn't resist taking a picture of this roadrunner made out of.....JUNK! It's actually kind of cool and Tommy signed his name to him to make sure everyone knew we were there.

Our first leg of the journey we drove to El Paso and stopped and got a hotel room for the night. El Paso kind of scares me because of the border town of Juarez, Mexico. It's amazing to me how close the cities are to each other with the river separating them. Anyway, on our second leg, we stopped in this little town of Fredricksburg Texas. The town was having a 4th of July celebration and we came upon this car that was parked on display. Once again, Tommy couldn't resist taking a picture.
All I got to say is that someone has a lot of time on their hands. The funny thing is that there was a sign posted that said, "This car is not for sale. If you want one, you'll have to make your own." Funny!!

We made it to Albert and Berenice's house on Saturday. They live in Kyle, which is a cute little town and their neighborhood has a pool so of course we had to use it.

Albert and Berenice have four girls and they are all about two years apart. So they have their hands full and it is never a dull moment! As you can see, all the girls like to hang onto their dad!

Esterlina, my sister in law and I had a great time together. Tommy's brother has always been a great example to us as well as his wife. I love spending time with them and we always have a ton of fun with them.

On Sunday, we got up and got dressed for church. Since we were all together and in our Sunday best clothes, Tommy snapped a picture of all of us. It was fast Sunday, so if we look pained it was because we hadn't eaten!!

We went to the outlet malls to shop and then to this bar-b-que place for a late lunch. It was a fun place. They had popcorn and lemonade you could buy while you waited for a table. They also had this duo singing folk songs. Do we look hungry?

We took a day and spent it in San Antonio to see the Alamo and do the river walk. Okay, I know that the Alamo has a huge historical significance, but I'm sorry, it's just a building and they wouldn't let you take pictures inside. I was disappointed!

After the Alamo, we went and did the river walk. It was pretty, but very hot, and humid. Not much to see but restaurants and hotels along the bank of the river.

Berenice is just a crack up and so much fun. She's a pretty darn good cook too!

Our next to last day there, we went to a place called Hamilton Pools. This was my favorite place! It is a swimming hole that is kind of out in the middle of nowhere. When it rains, there is a waterfall that spills into the pool.

In some areas the pool was 30 feet deep and there were HUGE fish and snapping turtles. The turtles were so cute, but we didn't get too close. We hiked down in with a large picnic of chicken, tortillas, hummus, tomatoes, crackers, cheese, and drinks. It was busy but fun and very relaxing.

I love this picture of Tommy...Isn't he cute!!

This is so not a flattering profile picture of me, but hey, it is what it is! This is the deep end of the pool and we are all standing and sitting on rocks.

After our stay in Kyle, we then went and spent a few days with a good friend in San Angelo. Unfortunately, Tommy kept forgetting to take his camera with him or I would have some great pictures of me wiping out on the tube being pulled by a speed boat.

OR BUST

Texas is all about the food and bar-b-que. I have never ate so much in my life and like I said earlier, Berenice is a really good cook. Bar-b-que chicken, enchiladas, homemade peach cobbler, ice cream, you name it, and I swear, we ate it! Tommy and I both came home with an extra five pounds to loose.

Sorry it's such a long post, but it sure was a lot of fun!!

I like the angles on a lot of this photogaphy. Well done. By the way, Anna has been talking about spending time with "Namie and Mare-e-lyn" (that is how she says it) for days now! She sure liked you!
